Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), an evidence-based approach that helps you process distressing memories, trauma, anxiety, and other emotional challenges in a way that is often faster and less verbally intensive than traditional talk therapy.
Using guided eye movements and visualization techniques, ART helps the brain reprocess difficult experiences, reduce emotional distress, and create a greater sense of calm, clarity, and empowerment. It is a unique and fascinating way of moving through what you have been struggling with — without having to “unpack” it all in typical weekly talk therapy sessions.
Many individuals find ART to be a gentle yet effective method for healing and lasting change and often see meaningful results in just 1-4 sessions (in my experience, most people notice relief after just one session—it's fast, gentle, effective, and evidence-based!) Personally, I'm a little obsessed with ART because I've seen how quickly it can help clients find relief from experiences that have felt overwhelming for years.
Talk Therapy
Talk Therapy
I also love talk therapy. Traditional talk therapy is a special way to create lasting change through having a stable therapeutic relationship, diving deep into the many parts of you, learning & un-learning, and implementing positive change towards becoming your favorite self.
My approach for talk therapy is primarily rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solution-focused, and psychodynamic models; I approach my sessions with warmth and empathy, honesty and directness, and focus on practical solutions to help you make real change in your day-to-day life. I also offer Exposure Response Prevention therapy (ERP) for OCD treatment.
I help my clients shift from things like anxiety, overthinking, negative self talk, and insecure attachments style to a a sense of secure self-love, self-worth, and confidence so they can finally feel in control of their feelings, their mind, and their life.
A little more on ART Therapy…
Most people know the basics of talk therapy, but in my experience, most people have never heard of ART, so let me explain…what is ART and how can it help?
First of all.. what even is ART?ART is a research-based, quick, & effective approach to psychotherapy and emotional processing: As stated on the Accelerated Resolution Therapy official website, ART “combines the enormous power of eye movements to allow voluntary changes in the client’s mind with well-established therapies”.
Why do an ART session?
Traditional weekly therapy can be incredibly valuable, but meaningful progress often unfolds over months of consistent sessions. An ART Intensive is designed for people who want focused, accelerated healing without the stop-and-start nature of weekly treatment.
In a condensed series of appointments (or just the single one), we target the root of what's keeping you stuck and work through it in a way that helps create momentum more quickly than traditional therapy alone.
Especially if:
You are motivated to address distressing symptoms or memories and are looking for an effective path toward relief.
Traditional therapy approaches have not produced the results you were hoping for.
You have a specific issue or experience you would like to focus on and prefer a treatment approach that may require fewer therapy sessions.
What is different about ART?
✨ You don’t have to share anything about your trauma/what you’re processing that you don’t wish to share (because ART doesn’t require you to share anything with your therapist to be effective!)
✨ If you don’t have the time or desire for ongoing therapy but still want relief, you can get treatment and move on without coming back week after week.
✨ It is supported by clinical research and established as an effective trauma therapy approach.
✨ By focusing on a targeted issue, we can move beyond typical therapy check-ins and spend more time actively working toward specific resolution. Many clients appreciate the opportunity to experience focused, targeted care and often report experiencing significant relief after only one session. It’s quick, evidence-based, and you get to share as much or as little as you want with me along the way.
✨ You can do this alongside traditional talk therapy, as well! Many people prefer to have ART sessions for things they are stuck on but appreciate talk therapy for the ongoing support (whether with myself or your own therapist).
Is it the same as EMDR?
✨ No, maybe you have heard of EMDR- similar to EMDR, ART uses eye movements to help process distressing experiences, and both ART and EMDR are based on principles of memory processing, but ART emphasizes replacing distressing images and is designed to achieve results more quickly, often within 1–4 sessions. EMDR typically requires a greater number of sessions than ART and involves discussing traumatic or distressing events in more detail during treatment (personally, I say ART “is like EMDR on steroids"!)
Some common things people come to ART for:
Trauma & PTSD (from childhood or adulthood), including but not limited to:
First responder & combat trauma
Sexual trauma
Medical trauma
Physical and emotional abuse
Car accidents or other single-incident traumatic events
Codependency
Body image
Eating disorders
Phobias
OCD
Anxiety and chronic stress
Depression
Unresolved grief
Performance anxiety
Relationships wounds & betrayal
Shame, guilt, & self-criticism
Distressing memories & intrusive thoughts
🧠 What about if I want to work on multiple things for ART?
Totally get that! Many people request to do ART for various events, stressors, or symptoms they want to process, so I have a couple of solutions for you, depending on what your needs are:
ART works really well with “themes”, so you could combine a few different memories or stressors into one ART session if they are of similar origin: for instance, you may have a few traumatic childhood memories of being bullied, so rather than doing one bullying memory per session, oftentimes we can combine them into one “scene” and process them all together! (Keep in mind, if you have a theme but more than a few memories/stressors then we may need to break it up into more than one ART session). 🗣️
You can also book more than one ART session, of course. This may be best for you if you have a variety of memories or ongoing symptoms that you want to process: for instance, maybe you're carrying a painful memory from childhood when a parent said hurtful things to you, you've experienced an abusive relationship as a teenager, and you also want to address a phobia of dogs - we can tackle each of these in separate sessions. 🙌🏼
If you decide you want more than 1 ART session, you can book additional ones scheduled one week apart - the space between appointments gives your brain the space and rest it needs to further integrate the deep processing that happens, because your subconscious needs some breathing room! 😮💨
As Laney says, “What if you could take away traumatic images that replay in your head over and over again? What if that could be done with the wave of a hand and in a short period of time, maybe even in an hour or less. What if you could get your life back? Accelerated Resolution Therapy allows people to keep the knowledge of the event or issue but lose the pain.”
Is ART or talk therapy right for you?
Many of the challenges we experience, such as low self-esteem, codependency, anxious attachment patterns, persistent negative self-talk, relationship struggles, anxiety, or the lingering impact of a difficult past memory can be supported through both talk therapy and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). Oftentimes these concerns overlap, and together we can determine which approach feels most supportive for your goals and healing process.
ART may be especially helpful for individuals experiencing trauma/PTSD, anxiety, phobias, performance anxiety, distressing memories, or deeply rooted negative self-beliefs that you'd like a more short-term resolution for. ART is also great if you have been feeling "stuck" with your symptoms, painful memories, or negative self-talk for a while and you aren't sure where else to turn. Talk therapy, meanwhile, offers space to build a deeper therapeutic relationship, explore patterns and emotions more fully, gain insight, and foster meaningful, lasting change over time, which has it's benefits, too!
